UN Secretary-general Kofi Annan informs His Excellency Mr Lauro L. Baja, Jr, President of the Security Council his intention to appoint H.E Mr Jan Pronk, ( Netherlands) as his Special Representative for the Sudan and Head of the peace support operation at the conclusion of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A). As senior United Nations Official, Mr Pronk has served as Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the World Summit on Sustainable Development (Johannesburg, 2002).
