Secretary-General Kofi Annan writes letters to invite His Excellency Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, Secretary-general of the Organization of African Unity (OAU - Addis-Ababa), Mr Lansana Kouyate, Executive Secretary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS - Abuja), Mr Emeka Anyaoku Commonwealth Secretary-General, His Excellency Stanislas Mudenge Chair of Commonwealth CMAG, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Zimbabwe (Conakry) and Foreign Minister of Nigeria, to the High-level Special Conference on Sierra Leone, scheduled on 30 July 1998 in New York, focusing on the country's efforts to restore peace and stability and how to extend its authority throughout its territory addressing challenges to disarmament, demobilization for former combatants and other peace-building measures.
