Ebola

Ebola is a deadly virus spread through direct contact with people who are sick or have died from infection. The West African Ebola epidemic of 2014 was the largest in history, starting in southeastern Guinea and soon spreading to neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone. Poor infection control measures and strained health care systems added to the devastation. By August 2014, the World Health Organization declared the situation a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. In conjunction with the US Center for Disease Control, other US government agencies, and the Ministries of Health in those affected countries, the World Health Organization and other national and international partners worked to end the epidemic. The outbreak was declared over in June 2016.
